Oral title: Type 1 AGN with Massive Absorbing Columns Oral abstract: I will present my analysis on the correspondence between X-ray and optical based measures of obscuration in Type 1 AGN from the BASS survey. Using the broad Halpha to X-ray luminosity correlation as a measure for the optical obscuration, I find that 14% of Type 1 AGN are X-ray absorbed with neutral column densities higher than those measured optically. This indicates dust free neutral gas likely associated the BLR itself is obscuring the X-ray corona. The fraction of X-ray absorbed Type 1 AGN also is constant as a function of LX and Eddington ratio indicating a constant BLR covering factor.
