Proceedings of the ESO-CERN-ESA Symposium on
Astronomy, Cosmology and Fundamental Physics
Garching bei München, Germany
March 4-7, 2002
Instructions for Authors
Contributions are due by 31 May 2002
The conference proceedings will be edited by P.A. Shaver, L. Di Lella
and A. Gimenez, and will be published in the Springer-Verlag series
"ESO Astrophysics Symposia".
Obtaining the LaTeX macros:
Contributions must be formatted with LaTeX using the macro
package which is available from the ESO ftp host via the URL:
ftp://ftp.eso.org/pub/esoproceedings/latex2e/
If you retrieve these files via a Web browser, please note that you
need to use the browser's "Save As..." facility.
If you are not using a Web browser to obtain the files, please do
the following:
Anonymous ftp to:
ftp.eso.org
login in as anonymous and change to directory:
/pub/esoproceedings/latex2e
then "get" all the files in this directory.
Remember to change to binary mode before transferring files with
the extensions .PDF, .doc, .dvi.
Preparing your contribution:
The files 1readme.PDF (pdf format) and 1readme.doc (MS Word format) contain
detailed instructions for authors.
The file author.tex contains a sample contribution, which can be used as a
template for your own text. The files author.dvi and 2demo.ps are the .dvi
and .ps files generated from the author.tex file by running LaTeX and dvips,
and the file figure.eps is a sample figure.
If you include your own LaTeX command definitions, please keep these
to an absolute minimum, and DO NOT change the macros, as this can cause
unpredictable effects when the individual contributions are compiled
together to produce the final book manuscript.
Figures must be provided as PostScript files and should be incorporated in
your contribution using the "graphicx" package as demonstrated in the demo
file author.tex.
Please use the following naming convention for your files: The Latex file of
your text should be called myname.tex, where "myname" (all in lower-case)
is the family name of the first author. Any figures should be named
"mynameF1.ps" (or .eps), "mynameF2a.ps" etc, for figure 1, figure 2a, etc.
Page limits:
The page limits are:
| 45-minute invited talks: |
|
up to 12 pages |
| 30-minute invited talks: |
|
up to 10 pages |
| 15-minute oral contributions: |
|
up to 4 pages |
| Poster papers: |
|
up to 2 pages |
Please try to observe these limits. It is anticipated that some editorial
overview will be exercised and authors may be requested to make changes
to their papers.
Colour illustrations:
Due to the high cost of printing colour plates, only a very limited
number of colour illustrations will be accepted, and only if there is
a strong scientific justification.
Submitting your contribution:
Please submit the LaTeX source file of your contribution, and
PostScript files of any figures, via ftp as follows:
Anonymous ftp to:
ftp.eso.org
login in as anonymous and change to directory:
/incoming/general/symp2002
and "put" all your files in this directory using the naming convention
explained above. Finally, let us know by sending a short message to Pamela
Bristow (pbristow@eso.org).
The deadline for receipt of manuscripts is 31 May 2002.
