Important Local Information


Arriving in Venice

1. Arriving by Plane

From the Airport you can reach Venice in several possible ways:

  • By Bus: just from the exit area direct busses reach non-stop the Venice car terminal "Piazzale Roma" (20 min, cost 3,00 €)
  • By Taxi: just from the exit area to the Venice car terminal "Piazzale Roma" (15 min, cost around 25,00 €).

    Arriving either by Bus or Taxi, proceed to the pier, line 82, direction Rialto/Lido, and follow instructions as for those arriving by car.

  • By Waterbus: from the airport pier (on the left of the exit, cost 10 €).
    • Blue line: Airport - S. Marco.
      Leaves every hour from 08:40 to 23:40 (it takes approx 70 minutes).
    • Red Line: Airport - S.Marco.
      Leaves every hour from 08:10 to 24:10 (it takes approx 80 minutes).
  • By Watertaxi: from the airport pier directly to the pier nearest to your hotel. Cost (up to 8 passengers) around 90,00 €.

2. Arriving by Car

Just at the end of the trans-lagunar bridge, turn right and reach the Tronchetto car parking (cost 18,00 €/day). Then proceed to the vaporetto pier, line 82, direction Rialto/Lido. Recommended stop depending on your destination:

  • Fondazione Levi: descend at "Accademia" stop, and cross the bridge
  • Istituto Ciliota: descend at "S. Samuele" stop
  • Istituto Canossiano: descend at "Accademia" stop

3. Arriving by Train

You will arrive at the "Venezia S. Lucia" railway station. Then take the vaporetto (line 82), direction Rialto/Lido, and follow the instructions above for the recommended stop. For the Istituto Canossiano it is also possible to take the vaporetto line 1, direction Rialto/Lido, and descend at the "Ca' Rezzonico" stop.

4. Leaving Venice

The Venice Airport can be reached directly from the Venue (S Servolo island) by watertaxi in about 30 minutes. The Railway station, Piazzale Roma, and the car park can be reached by public transportation in about 45 minutes. Additional information on departures will be given during the meeting.

Registration and Welcome Reception


The Welcome Reception will take place at the S. Servolo Island on October 13, from 19:00 to 20:30. Accompaining persons will be welcome.

Registration Fee:We remind all participants that the registration fee (300,00 €) will be payable in cash only at the conference desk (sorry, no credit cards) at the beginning of the Workshop, on October 13. No fees will be collected during the pre-registration on October 12. The fee will also cover lunches on the island of S. Servolo, the 5-day ticket for the vaporettos, and a copy of the conference proceedings.



Accommodation and Venue
Guests will pay directly to the hotels. Credit Cards are accepted only by Istituto Ciliota (but not American Express and Diners). Credit Card service is not available at Fondazione Levi and Istituto Canossiano, where guests will have to pay cash.

Note that on each conference day a special waterbus will leave Venice at 9:00 and return to Venice leaving the island at 19:20 (at 20:40 the first day). For the full timetable of the vaporetto connections to the island see: www.viu.unive.it/boats.htm

Facilities available during the meeting
  • Oral Presentations: Standard overhead projector and video-beamer will be available (please, bring also transparencies as a back up). Please bring your power-point (or other) presentation on a memory stick or floppy disk or CD-rom. Your presentation will be loaded on our laptop, tested in advance, and you will operate it directly. Both Windows and Linux will be available. The beamer has a 1029x768 resolution.
  • Posters: Posters will be displayed in spaces comfortably close to the conference room, to allow their viewing during coffee and lunch breaks. A 85cm x 85cm maximum area will be available for each poster. Means to attach posters will be provided. Due to the very large number of posters (over 100 participants are registered with poster presentations) your poster may not be on display for the whole duration of the meeting. Posters will be divided into 3 groups, in a sequence that follows the alphabetical order of the first author. The first group will be allocated on Monday morning. On Tuesday morning the Authors of the first group should take care to move their posters downwards along the panel, to leave the upper space to the second group of posters. Similarly, on the third morning the Authors of the second group should take care to move downwards their posters, to leave the upper space to the third group of posters. No oral presentation of posters will be possible, but there will be ample time dedicated to ...
  • Internet/e-mail access: several terminals will be available.
