Proposed observations A systematic search for planets will be made for a volume limited sample of stars closer than 11 parsecs. These objects are of prime importance for all future astrometric studies to be carried out with the VLTI or space-mission like SIM. A systematic survey of very low mass stars will also give a chance to get a determination of the frequency of planets as a function of the stellar mass. For the less massive stars , short-period planets of only a few times the mass of the Earth could be detected. Since most of these objects are faint , high efficiency is required , we will therefore observe them in the standard observing mode using the simultaneous ThAr reference .
