The generic driver

Starting with 94MAY, MIDAS releases are delivered with a generic driver called iodevg.c in the directory /midas/98NOV/lib/os/unix. This is based in the semi-standard mtio (general magnetic tape) interface. The MIDAS tape interface will select this driver, by default, whenever your device-name is not found in the devcap.dat file (pointed by environment variable DEVCAPFILE). The generic driver can support most of the tape devices (tested on SunOS-4.1.3 and HP-UX) without any further modification, just try to access your tape by giving the device-name, in its no-rewind mode, to the INTAPE/OUTTAPE commands (check HELP/INTAPE for more details).
