During PODPS pipeline calibration, GEIS format data sets consisting of a Standard Header Packet, a Unique Data log, a Science Data file, a Science Header Line file, a Science Trailer Line file, and Data Quality files corresponding to each of the science files are created for the Faint Object Spectrograph (FOS). Each data file comprises two parts-an ASCII header file and a binary data file. All files for a particular observation have the same root file name; the type of data in each file is identified by its extension (Table 1). These data sets are used as input to the standard calibration program, CALFOS. CALFOS produces a new set of calibrated data files (Table 2). All calibrated data file headers are a copy of the Science Data header with appropriate keywords containing updated values. The different types of data files are described in detail below.
