The UDL contains the mechanism control blocks used to control the entrance aperture, entrance port, polarizer, and filter and grating wheel assembly. The UDL also includes the discriminator level and disabled diode table and serial digital engineering data including instrument configuration and exposure parameters. The UDL files are identified by the extensions ``.ULH'' and ``.ULD''.
