G.Chiozzi - My job making research at the University of Ferrara

Nov 87 - Dec 89 Research activity on plasma physics. Dottorato di Ricerca

During this period I carried on the research activity started in 1987 for my degree thesis.

From 1987 to 1990 I worked with Prof. M.Bornatici at the physic's department of the University of Ferrara. I made theoretical research on the interaction between magnetised plasmas and electromagnetic waves in nuclear fusion machines. I studied with analytical techniques the absorption coefficients of anisotropic plasmas for electromagnetic radiation at the electron cyclotron frequency. Some of the work has been developed at the Centre d'Etudes Nucleaires de Cadarache, where I developed a numerical code to analyse some aspects of the problem.

In 1987/88, I have also been involved in a project of INFN (National Institute for Nuclear Physics) on the realisation of an electron-cooling device and of a Free Electron Laser. This activity took place at the INFN Section in Ferrara and at the INFN National Laboratories in Legnaro (PD), where the gun was installed. My activity covered tests on the power unit and the assembly of the magnetic channel of the device. My interest in this activity was mainly due to the relevance of FELs as sources of high power electromagnetic waves for plasma physic.
