Current Status
I am a Fellow at the European Southern
Observatory.
I obtained my Ph.D. from the Institute
of Astronomy, Cambridge in
1998. My Ph.D thesis is on
Elliptical Galaxy Cores. After being a postdoctoral fellow at the Departamento de Astronomia y
Astrofisica, PUC, in Chile, I was
for two years as ESO Fellow and Instrument Scientist of EFOSC2 on the 3.6m telescope at La Silla. Since 1 July
2003, I have been working at our Garching Office.
From 1 August 2004 onwards, I'll be a Postdoctoral Associate at the Department
of Physics, University of Durham.
Research Interests
- Elliptical galaxy formation at different mass scales.
- Dwarf ellipticals: I am
participating in the ESO Large Program 165.N-0155(B) lead by Dejonghe
et al. We have obtained 28 nights with FORS2 on the VLT for this
program.
- Intermediate mass ellipticals:
I am using "fossil records" such as shells and kinematically decoupled
cores to study the effects of mergers and interactions. I'm also
involved in the study of ellipticals in different environments (in
Hickson Compact Groups, and in isolation).
- Brighest cluster galaxies.
I'm leading an international project to study the kinematics and
stellar populations of brightest cluster galaxies, especially their
faint extended halos (cD halos).

A list of recently submitted preprints at astro-ph can be found here.
An article about myself in the ESO Messenger December 2003 issue can be
found here (plain text). A short summary of my thesis work is
also available.
