In Summary:
- FLAMES: within FLAMES, the
GIRAFFE spectrograph offers a spectral resolution between 7500 and 25000
over the otical wavelength range 370-900nm.
In addition to its 130 deployable fibers, it also hosts
12 deployable integral field units (of 20 microlenses each, forming a 3"
aperture on the sky), as well as one integral field unit of 22 by 14
microlenses (with two scales giving 17"x7" or 6.6"x4.2" on the sky).
- VIMOS: includes an IFU that works in
the optical (350m-900nm) at a spectral resolution between 200 and 2500. The
lenslet array is composed by 80x80 elements sampling either at 0.67"/pix
or 0.33"/pix, 54"x54" or 27"x27" on the sky respectively.
- SINFONI: is a near-infrared
integral field spectrograph (1.0-2.5 microns) support by Adaptive
Optics. Its spectral resolution ranges from 1000 to 3000, and its 32x32
spatial pixels (of variable scales 250/100/25 mas/pix) cover a field of
view of 8"x8" or 3"x3" or 0.8"x0.8" on the sky.
- NIRMOS: is planned to be the
near-infrared (up to H band) counter-part of VIMOS.
