Collaboration Case: Telescope Pointing Machine

Description:  The Telescope Pointing Machine performs the transformation from astronomical coordinates to encoder values.
It takes into account all factors that influence refraction (wavelength, humidity, pressure), location (longitude, latitude, height), polar motion, time (MJD), the pointing model, additional velocities and all information that is directly related to the coordinates (coordinate system, epoch, equinox, parallax, radial velocity, proper motion).

Performance:  20ms

Frequency:  Every time we need to convert astronomical coordinates

Package Assignment:  Tracking.

Preconditions: 

Basic Course: 

• Provide astronomical coordinates in Alt/Az or Alpha/Delta
• Transform into encoder values
• Return encoder values

Postconditions: 

• Encoder values available

Issues to be Determined or Resolved: 

Currently TCS does not support specifying the spectral types of the Object and of the Guide Star in the Set-up File instead of the wavelength.
