APEX time-lapse

Night time-lapse of the APEX antenna in the Chajnator plateau in Chile’s Atacama region. APEX is a 12-metre diameter telescope that observes at milimetre and submilimetre. Astronomers observing with APEX can study what is invisible for visible and infrared light, unveiling the mysteries of the “cold Universe”. APEX serves as a prototype of the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), a revolutionary telescope that ESO, together with other international partners, is building in the Chajnantor plateau.
