Tým astronomů využívající dalekohled VLT na Evropské jižní observatoři (ESO) v Chile nalezl důkazy přítomnosti další planety obíhající kolem hvězdy Proxima Centauri. Tento kandidát na novou exoplanetu je již třetím tělesem objeveným v tomto systému a zatím nejlehčím známým objektem na oběžné dráze kolem Slunci nejbližší sousední hvězdy. S hmotností pouhé čtvrtiny Země patří Proxima d k nejlehčím extrasolárním planetám, jaké byly dosud odhaleny.
