'Oumuamua, ensimmäinen aurinkokunnasta löydetty tähtienvälinen kappale, liikkuu loitommas Auringosta odotettua nopeammin. Tämän poikkeavan käyttäytymisen havaitsi maailmanlaajuinen tähtitieteellinen yhteistyö, johon sisältyy ESO:n VLT-teleskooppi Chilessä. Uudet tulokset antavat ymmärtää, että 'Omuamua on mitä ilmeisimmin tähtienvälinen komeetta eikä asteroidi. Tulokset ilmestyvät julkaisusarjassa Nature.
