ESO and Czech Republic sign Training Programme agreement
14 mars 2019
The European Southern Observatory (ESO) and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic (MEYS) have signed an agreement which will facilitate an on-the-job training programme for Czech students and interns at ESO.
The agreement was signed by Pavel Doleček, Deputy Minister Research and Higher Education of the Czech Republic, and Xavier Barcons, ESO Director General, at a ceremony held today at ESO Headquarters in Garching, Germany. Also in attendance were: Kristina Larischová, Consul General of the Czech Republic in Munich; Jan Kreuter, Consul for Politics and Commerce; and the ESO Council Delegates of the Czech Republic, Jan Buriánek and Jan Palouš.
The programme will be funded by MEYS with the core aim of carrying out training to match the needs of the Czech industry and research organisations. The training will be provided by ESO to students from universities in the Czech Republic and young interns in science and engineering.
This agreement aligns with the values of MEYS, which seeks to support the international cooperation of the Czech Republic in research and development and promote the advancement of scientific and technological knowledge in the Czech Republic.
The programme will also help to fulfil ESO’s goal of fostering international collaboration in astronomy and astrophysics, and will promote the scientific and technological expertise of scientists, engineers, technicians and students from ESO.
The Czech Republic has been a valued Member State of ESO since 2007. The training programme will strengthen this cooperative relationship, as well as advancing the work of scientists and engineers both within ESO and in the Czech Republic in supporting further technological development in astronomy and astrophysics.
