Vertex assembly hangar construction

Structure of the hangar built by Vertex for the assembly of the North American antennas at the ALMA Operations Support Facility (OSF), located at 2900 m on the road to Chajnantor, in the II Region of Chile. ALMA is a partnership between East Asia, North America and Europe, in collaboration with Chile. The production of the 66 antennas that will make up the array is shared between the partners. The antennas are built by different specialised companies, to the same technical requirements and specifications. Vertex is the manufacturer of the North American antennas. The antenna components arrive at the ALMA OSF, where each company assembles them before delivering them to the ALMA project for their acceptance. ALMA, the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array is the largest astronomical project in existence.
