OWL conference 2005

With ESO's Very Large Telescope (VLT) array already in service since 1999, and the next generation Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) slated to begin operations in 2018, it is never too early to start looking even farther ahead. Accordingly, scientists gathered to discuss the Overwhelmingly Large (OWL) telescope concept in September 2005 at ESO. OWL would have a primary mirror of perhaps 100 m in diameter -- more than twice the revolutionary breadth of the ELT's 39.3 m mirror.
