ALMA observes clouds in NGC 6822

This montage shows four star-forming gas clouds in NGC 6822, a barred irregular dwarf galaxy, about 1.6 million light-years away.  The observations were made with the Wide Field Imager attached to the 2.2-metre MPG/ESO telescope at ESO’s La Silla Observatory, the Very Large Array and by the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA).
