Going underground
In this photograph, the main entrance into the Paranal Residencia can be seen disappearing beneath the Chilean Atacama Desert.
The Residencia is a unique subterranean construction with a facade opening towards the Pacific Ocean. Natural daylight is brought into the building through a 35-metre wide glass-covered dome, which can be seen in the background.
