The VLT under the Milky Way in UHD

This image captures three of eight telescopes belonging to the Very Large Telescope array (VLT) at the Paranal Observatory: two of four 8.2-metre Unit Telescopes in the back and one of four 1.8-meter Auxiliary Telescopes in the front. Each telescope can be used on its own, or connected to the others to form the Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI). Furthermore, the Auxiliary Telescopes can be moved across the VLT platform automatically. Above the Paranal scene, the Milky Way galaxy stretches across the night sky.
