Very Large Telescope Laser Guide Star in UHD

This is the view from inside one of the four Unit Telescopes of the Very Large Telescope array (VLT) at Paranal Observatory. The beam emitted from close to the secondary mirror creates a yellow artificial “star” in sodium cloud around the Earth. This provides a bright reference source to correct atmospheric turbulence in real time in fields devoid of bright enough natural stars.
