Telescope on the mountain

Some of the Unit Telescopes of ESO's Very Large Telescope (VLT) are visible atop Cerro Paranal, a 2600-metre high mountain south of Antofagasta, Chile. This site offers excellent viewing conditions to astronomers studying the Universe, a major factor in the decision to build the Paranal Observatory there.
