21 juli 2020: ESO and the Centre for Astrophysics of the University of Porto (CAUP) are delighted to announce that Finnish student Meri Teeriaho is the winner of the summer AstroCamp 2020 prize offered by ESO. The camp received about 50 applications from 12 countries, most of these applications being from ESO member states. The ESO-supported summer AstroCamp is an academic programme devoted to astronomy and physics, organised by the Centre for Astrophysics of the University of Porto (CAUP). The camp will take place from 9 to 23 August 2020. This year, the camp is organised under special circumstances due to the global context. A total of sixteen students will participate in the camp, with those living abroad participating remotely and those living in Portugal attending the camp in person, at the Centre for Environmental Education and Interpretation of the Corno de Bico Protected Landscape, under special safety conditions agreed with the local ...

31 maart 2020: De aanvragen voor het door ESO ondersteunde zomerkamp AstroCamp 2020 gaan op 1 april 2020 van start. AstroCamp is een academisch programma op het gebied van astronomie en fysica, georganiseerd door het Centro de Astrofísica da Universidade do Porto (CAUP), dat nieuwsgierigheid en kritisch denken wil bevorderen. Het kamp vindt plaats van 9 tot 23 augustus 2020 op een afgelegen en rustige plek, weg van de stedelijke stress. Het programma is bedoeld voor middelbare scholieren uit 42 verschillende landen, waaronder alle ESO-lidstaten (dus ook Nederland en België), Canada en de Verenigde Staten. De scholieren moeten in een van hun laatste drie jaren zijn voordat ze naar de universiteit gaan. De aankondiging van het AstroCamp was op 22 Februari. 20 juni 2019: The winner of the AstroCamp 2019 bursary offered by ESO has now been selected. Overall the camp received nearly 100 applications from 18 countries, most of these applications being from ESO member countries. ESO is delighted to announce that Carolina Chinigò, an Italian student doing an International Baccalaureate in the United Kingdom, is the winner of the ESO bursary. The ESO bursary covers the camp fee, including full-board accommodation, camp activities, internal travel to and from Porto airport, and insurance. With this bursary, ESO is delighted to provide Carolina with assistance to participate in this potentially career-defining event. In total, 18 students aged between 15 and 18 have been invited to attend this year’s summer AstroCamp: 11 girls and 7 boys, from Brazil, Germany, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. AstroCamp is een academisch programma op het gebied van astronomie en fysica, georganiseerd door het Centro de Astrofísica da Universidade do Porto (CAUP), dat nieuwsgierigheid en kritisch denken wil bevorderen. Het kamp vindt plaats van 4 tot 18 augustus 2019 op een afgelegen en rustige plek, weg van de stedelijke stress. 23 oktober 2018: The winner of the ESO-offered bursary for the Winter AstroCamp 2018 has now been selected from 95 applications from 15 countries. ESO is delighted to announce that James Weyringer, an Austrian citizen, is the winner of the ESO bursary. The standard of applications was extremely high, from a variety of enthusiastic future scientists and engineers keen to attend this year’s camp. The ESO bursary covers the full cost of the camp, providing James with financial assistance to participate in this potentially career-defining event. Other applicants have been selected to receive financial support from other institutions across Europe. ESO and its Science Outreach Network are collaborating with the science education event organiser Sterrenlab and the Astronomical Observatory of the Autonomous Region of the Aosta Valley (OAVdA) to organise the sixth ESO Astronomy Camp. 20 februari 2017: Met trots kondigt ESO de nieuwe samenwerking aan met het Centrum voor Astrofysica van de Universiteit van Porto (CAUP) om AstroCamp 2017 te steunen, een academisch zomerprogramma gericht op astronomie voor leerlingen van het secundair onderwijs (Ned: voortgezet onderwijs). Astrocamp 2017 gaat door van 6 tot 20 augustus in het noorden van Portugal in het Centrum voor Milieu-educatie en Interpretatie van het beschermd natuurgebied Corno de Bico. Op 25 februari zullen de organisatoren een webcast organiseren om meer informatie te verstrekken aan potentiële kandidaten en hun familie. De doelstelling van het kamp is om de nieuwsgierigheid van scholieren en hun vaardigheid tot kritisch nadenken te stimuleren, vooral dan op het gebied van astrofysica en om leerlingen met verschillende achtergronden en levenservaring samen te brengen.
