Deze nieuwe opname van het rozerode stervormingsgebied Messier 17 is vastgelegd met de Wide Field Imager van de 2,2-meter MPG/ESO-telescoop van de ESO-sterrenwacht op La Silla in Chili. Het is een van de scherpste opnamen die de complete nevel tonen en niet alleen zijn volledige omvang laten zien, maar ook de fijne details in dit kosmische landschap van gaswolken, stof en pasgeboren sterren.
