Licancabur and Jurique

Impressive view of the Licancabur (on the left) and the Jurique (on the right) volcanoes, both border mountains divided between Chile and Bolivia. With an altitude of 5920 m, Licancabur dominates the landscape with its unmistakable conic shape, which makes it the most iconic volcano in the area of San Pedro de Atacama, in the II Region of Chile. The picture was taken from the road to Chajnantor, the 5000 m high plateau home of ALMA, the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array, the largest astronomical project in existence.
