Drone image of the ELT dome construction

This drone image from June 2024 shows the striking profile of ESO's Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) dome against the mountains of the Atacama Desert in Chile. The cladding around the upper dome will eventually coat the entire structure, protecting the ELT mirrors from the harsh environment of the desert. The ELT is expected to see first light later this decade.
