Interferometr Bardzo Dużego Teleskopu (VLTI), należący do Europejskiego Obserwatorium Południowego (ESO), zaobserwował obłok kosmicznego pyłu w centrum galaktyki Messier 77, w którym skrywa się supermasywna czarna dziura. Otrzymane rezultaty potwierdziły przewidywania sprzed około 30 lat i dają astronomom nowy wgląd w „aktywne jądra galaktyk”, jedne z najjaśniejszych i najbardziej tajemniczych obiektów we Wszechświecie.
