Europejski zespół astronomów użył nowego instrumentu GRAVITY, na należącym do ESO teleskopie VLT, w celu wykonania interesujących obserwacji centrum Drogi Mlecznej, poprzez połączenie po raz pierwszy światła z czterech 8,2-metrowych Teleskopów Głównych. Wyniki te stanowią zapowiedź rewolucyjnych odkryć naukowych, których będzie dostarczać GRAVITY, gdy będzie badać ekstremalnie silne pola grawitacyjne w pobliżu supermasywnej czarnej dziury i testować ogólną teorię względności Einsteina.
