Winners of art&science@ESO Residency Award 2015 Announced

This year’s award of a residency at one of ESO’s observatories and at the Ars Electronica Futurelab goes to Quadrature.

15 mars 2016

The winners of the 2015 art&science@ESO Residency Award are Quadrature, a group of artists from Berlin, Germany. The group consists of Jan Bernstein, Sebastian Neitsch and Juliane Götz. Together they describe themselves as “an atelier for arts, robotics and light”, and, unsurprisingly, they all share a love for machines and outer space.

Part of the European Digital Art & Science Network, this award is the result of the ongoing cooperation between ESO and Ars Electronica. The winners were selected from a total of 322 entrants from 55 countries who responded to the 2015 Open Call. Quadrature will take up a residency at one of ESO’s observatories in Chile, followed by a month at the Ars Electronica Futurelab in Linz, Austria where they will develop and create new work inspired by the visit to ESO.

ESO congratulates Quadrature on their receipt of this award and looks forward to an inspiring and productive residency.

More information

The European Digital Art and Science Network was initiated by Ars Electronica and seven cultural partners throughout Europe (Center for the Promotion of Science, Republic of Serbia; DIG Gallery, Slovakia; Zaragoza City of Knowledge Foundation, Spain; Kapelica Gallery / Kersnikova, Slovenia; GV Art, UK; Laboral, Spain; Science Gallery, Ireland) with the support of the Creative Europe Program of the EU.

The call for entries closed on 29 November 2015. Artists were invited to submit a short video conveying the ideas and themes they would like to develop and implement during the residency. Full details can be found on the Art & Science Open Call webpage.

An international jury made up of representatives of ESO and all European Digital Art and Science Network members selected the successful candidates.
