Open House Day 2018

Visitors to ESO's Garching Headquarters learn about the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) on Open House Day (OHD), Saturday 13 October 2018. Along with other institutes based at the science research centre in Garching, ESO participates in this event where the public are invited to explore the centre and learn about the research projects being conducted here that will advance our understanding of the Universe. The ELT is one such project; when completed, it will be the largest optical telescope in the world, with a main mirror 39 metres in diameter. With first light targeted for 2024, the ELT will not only answer important questions in astronomy, but also raise — and hopefully partly answer — entirely new questions that we cannot conceive of today.
