README file - 60-A.9284(K) Preibisch - email of 19.12.2007 Here is the information for the upcoming HAWK-I SV observations of the Carina Nebula. The central coordinates of the 24 mosaic fields are as follows: mosaic field RA DEC (J2000) number: field 1: 10:45:03.0,-59:23:04.0 field 2: 10:44:06.0,-59:23:04.0 field 3: 10:45:03.0,-59:30:14.0 field 4: 10:44:06.0,-59:30:14.0 field 5: 10:43:09.0,-59:30:14.0 field 6: 10:46:00.0,-59:37:24.0 field 7: 10:45:03.0,-59:37:24.0 field 8: 10:44:06.0,-59:37:24.0 field 9: 10:43:09.0,-59:37:24.0 field 10: 10:46:57.0,-59:44:34.0 field 11: 10:46:00.0,-59:44:34.0 field 12: 10:45:03.0,-59:44:34.0 field 13: 10:44:06.0,-59:44:34.0 field 14: 10:47:54.0,-59:51:44.0 field 15: 10:46:57.0,-59:51:44.0 field 16: 10:46:00.0,-59:51:44.0 field 17: 10:45:03.0,-59:51:44.0 field 18: 10:47:54.0,-59:58:54.0 field 19: 10:46:57.0,-59:58:54.0 field 20: 10:46:00.0,-59:58:54.0 field 21: 10:45:03.0,-59:58:54.0 field 22: 10:46:57.0,-60:06:04.0 field 23: 10:46:00.0,-60:06:04.0 field 24: 10:45:03.0,-60:06:04.0 The field number gives the priority, i.e. start with field 1. For each field, we want to use a 5-point dither pattern with (absolute) positions offsets as follows: (0,0), (-40,+40), (-40,-40), (+40,-40), (+40,+40) arcsec Each field should be observed in each filter before moving to the next field. The total exposure times per filter for each field are: J: 12 minutes H: 8 minutes Ks: 5 minutes H_2: 5 minutes Brgamma: 5 minutes We have no specific requirements for the DITs; standard values should be OK, but note that there are quite bright objects in some of the fields (eta Car has J=1.65, H=1.07, K=0.17). [Since we are mainly interested in the faint objects, it is not a big problem that the brightest stars will be saturated.] We do not need specific standard star observations. The attached file contains a finding chart where the position of each mosaic field is marked on the 2MASS J-band image.
