And yet another eclipse release! This one mostly corrects bugs and delivers some important ISAAC utilities. Since the library is now used to implement pipeline stuff for the VLT infrared instruments, future changes will be related to ISAAC support. Adaptive Optics support will still be updated from time to time but does not get the maximal priority for the moment.

Notice that the user manual has not been updated. Manual pages (seen with the 'man' command on the command-line) are always updated when modifications are brought to eclipse commands, but it takes me a lot of time to update the user manual efficiently at the same time. When time is short, documentation is the first to suffer...

When ISAAC comes on-line in April 1999, a number of eclipse routines will be on the mountain inserted in the DataFlow system to help reduce data on the fly. I expect that the ISAAC documentation will contain all necessary information about these commands, and that this information will be propagated to the eclipse user manual. This will ensure a decent documentation to help people reduce their data with this pipeline tool.

Among other success stories: eclipse seems to have made its way to Hawaii, I have been told it is routinely used on the CFHT and possibly will be on the Kecks. Some of its routines will make it into the Terapix project (Megacam on the CFHT), where people are badly in need of fast routines to help them process the terabytes of data delivered by this camera. The Subaru people already announced their intent to include eclipse into pipeline processing tools. Aloha Hawaii!
