Figure 1.

Im2 HST WFPC2 sub-pixelised image of a region 43'' by 17'' around the quasar PKS0528-250, showing the group of three galaxies S1, S2, S3. The size of each sub--pixel is 0.05 arcsec. The image is a weighted average of data from 30 orbits, and has been convolved with a Gaussian profile of sigma=1.3 sub-pixel. An inset panel shows a small region to the S (lower left) of the quasar after subtraction of the quasar image, revealing the image of S1. The scale is shown by a horizontal bar of length 3 arcsec, the orientation is N to the upper-right, E to the upper left.

Figure 2.

Im1 This figure presents a comparison of images of S1 (top panel), S2 (middle panel) and S3 (bottom panel) in all HST bands. From left to right the panels show: F450W (B), F467M, and F814 (I) filter data. For the source S1 the quasar psf has been subtracted, and the low S/N F467M images have been lightly smoothed. In panel 4 from the left we show a weighted sum of all images, in panel 5 our best model fit (using exponential profiles) to the I band image and in panel 6 the residuals. All images in this Figure are 2.0'' by 2.0'' with orientation as in Figure 1.
