Our mission statement ...
At ESO Headquarters in Garching, data from the VLT/VLTI are
processed, their quality is checked and monitored. This is the task of the Quality
Control and Data
Processing Group ("QC Garching"). This
process forms the back-end of the Data Flow System.
QC Garching has the following main tasks:
Calibration data
- create master calibration data, control their quality and
certify them
- perform instrument trend analysis and feedback the results
to Paranal Observatory
- deliver master calibration data to the science archive
Science data
- reduce science data taken in Service Mode and control their
quality
- organize and distribute all data taken in Service Mode (all
VLT/VLTI; most La Silla instruments, described here)
- process pre-imaging data
Note: Science data are currently processed by QC Garching only
for Service Mode runs. Visitor Mode runs currently do not receive any
data products from QC Garching. However all calibration data (independent
of the observing mode) are processed, certified and stored in the archive.
