THE ELT DESIGN STUDY

  ACTIVITIES

The table below shows the many activities (and their Work Breakdown Structure WBS) pursued under the ELT-DS. Enabling technologies in the various areas are pursued through design studies, extensive simulations, prototyping and laboratory/sky testing.

TASKS

WBS nr. Descriptive Title Short description and specific objectives of the task
01000 Project coordination and management Overall coordination of the project and reporting to the EC
02000 Science requirements Consolidation and prioritization of top level requirements applicable to an ELT
04000 Wavefront control Coordination of tasks No 04200 to 04800
05000 Optical fabrication Technical and managerial coordination of tasks 05100 and 05200; reporting to Project Management
06000 Mechanics Technical and managerial coordination of tasks 06100 to 06400; reporting to Project Management
08000 Enclosure and infrastructure Technical and managerial co-ordination of 08100 and 08300; reporting to Project Management
09000 Adaptive optics Technical and managerial co-ordination of 09200 to 09600
