Supernova Observations and Data Reduction

Winter School 2005
Asiago (Italy) - February 7-11, 2005

Questionnaire Results

After the last lecture, all participants were asked to fill in an anonymous questionnaire, which included 9 multiple choice questions about the School. In the following we report the results we have obtained from the 23 out of 25 forms we have received. Besides giving the global pie-diagrams, we have also differentiated the statistics between Post-Docs (8) and Ph.D./Undegraduated students (14+1).

1. Mark here your education level

NOTES:

2. In general, how would you grade the School?

NOTES: For about 87% of the participants, the School was Good or Very Good. There is not much difference between Post-Docs and Ph.D./Undergraduated students.

3. What about general logistics?

NOTES: This is probably the weakest point of the School. Low temperatures and telescope pillar certainly plaid a role. Post-Docs seem to like the logistics more than younger participants.

4. How do you judge the quality of the lectures?

NOTES: More than 91% of the participants think the lectures were Good or Very Good. The lowest grade (Sufficient) was given by two Ph.D. Students.

5. What about the school duration?

NOTES: For more than 78% of the participants the School duration was OK. Still, for a sensible fraction (~22%), the School was too short, preferentially for Ph.D. students.

6. What about the lecture's length?

NOTES: There seems to be a general consensus on the lectures duration, which was judged right for more than 95% of the participants. Actually, only for 1 Ph.D. Student they were too long.

7. What about the lecture's level?

NOTES: We forgot to insert an intermediate level between Simple and Complex. From the results one can deduce that the lecture level was judged to be OK.

8. You think the school was

NOTES:The school was reckoned to be very useful by almost 40% of the participants, while it was of some use for a bit more than 50%. Only two Ph.D. students think it was useless. Note that an intermediate level between "of some use" and "very useful" would have been probably necessary.

9. If you were to re-organize the School, what would you change?

NOTES: The message here is clear: more exercises and observations would have made the participants happier. Unfortunately, the problem with AFOSC Dewar totally spoiled our two nights at Mount Ekar.

Other

At the end of the questionnaire, the participants were asked to give free comments. Only two of them used this opportunity. Here follow their comments:

Worst and Best answers

The worst feed-back was expressed by two Ph.D. Students, who gave back the forms with identical answers. For both of them the school was useless, the quality was sufficient and school/lectures durations were OK.

The best feed-back was expressed by a Post-Doc. He gave very positive answers.
