Koncem roku 2019 začala dříve nenápadná galaxie SDSS1335+0728 náhle zářit jasněji než kdykoli předtím. Aby astronomové zjistili proč, sledovali pomocí dat z několika vesmírných a pozemních observatoří, včetně VLT (Very Large Telescope) Evropské jižní observatoře (ESO), jak se jasnost galaxie proměňuje. V dnes zveřejněné studii dospívají k závěru, že jsou svědky změn, které v galaxii dosud nebyly pozorovány - pravděpodobně v důsledku náhlého probuzení masivní černé díry v jejím jádře.
