Dear Fellow Communicators,
The end of the year is approaching, and with it, the holiday season! If you manage a shop at your science centre, museum or planetarium, and are looking for interesting products with which to restock your shelves, take a look at ESO’s suite of print products and merchandise in our updated ESOshop catalogue. The prices start at our own production price.
Don’t miss CAPjournal 18, which brings you interesting insights into communicating astronomy with the public and useful tips that you can use in your daily work. If you are into the more technological side of our field I invite you to browse the article written by ePOD Using Content Distribution Networks for Astronomy Outreach which details our experience of delivering huge amounts of data, such as planetarium shows, to the public via the internet.
Talking about planetarium shows, our free From Earth to the Universe show has new translations available: Hindi, Japanese, Russian, Italian and Telugu (besides the already existing German, Greek and English). Download everything here for free.
Have a look at photos from Dr Brian May’s visit to Paranal, which took place at the end of September, by checking out the Stars@ESO section. If you are planning on visiting us as well, we have recently updated our Travel and Visits pages. Don’t forget that you can reserve free tickets for our weekend visits to Paranal, La Silla or ALMA if you are in Chile. Just make sure that you make the reservations well in advance!
Finally a fun fact: our telescopes are featured in the latest James Bond movie. The trailer released for Spectre shows a couple of our telescopes (at least the domes ;) in the background. Have a look!
Let’s reach new heights in astronomy together!
