November 2015

Dear Fellow Communicators,

The registrations and abstract submissions have opened for the Communicating Astronomy with the Public 2016 Conference (CAP2016)! Don’t miss the opportunity to inject new trends, insights and lessons learned into your science communication! Make sure you don’t miss the deadline for abstracts (25 January 2016) and the deadline for early-bird registrations (5 February 2016). We would particularly encourage you to consider organising a workshop for CAP2016, either on your own or together with peers. This year the Scientific Organising Committee is focused on giving CAP a more hands-on approach and workshops are going to play an important role in this. Networking will also be another keyword, so all the more reason to consider attending and contributing! More information here.

Our free planetarium show From Earth to the Universe has added new online translations: Czech has now been added to the list that already includes German, Greek, English, Hindi, Japanese, Russian, Italian and Telugu.

If you had students who applied for the ESO Astronomy Camp, the places have been allocated and are now public. Congratulations to all participants!

Finally the results of the Photo Nightscape Award 2015 from Ciel et Espace Photos have just been announced. As a member of the jury I had the pleasure of seeing all the submissions and I was literally overwhelmed by the quality. To avoid a retinal overload I spread the evaluation of the many hundred entries over three evenings. But it was still amazingly painful to have to pick just two winners in each category. Congratulations to the winners — and to those who did not win: there were very many more extremely high quality entries than we were able to acknowledge in the final awards list!

Let’s reach new heights in astronomy together!
