En ny klasse af galakser er blevet identificeret med observationer fra ESOs Very Large Telescope (VLT), Gemini South-teleskopet og Canada Frankrig Hawaii-teleskopet (CFHT). De kaldes ”grønne-bønner-galakser” på grund af deres usædvanlige udseende. Disse galakser gløder i det intense lys udsendt fra omgivelserne af monsterstore sorte huller og de er blandt de mest sjældne objekter i universet.
