La Silla early construction
Explosions level the site of the future Schmidt 1-metre Telescope during the construction of La Silla Observatory, in the mountains of the IV Region of Chile, during the late 1960’s. La Silla is the ESO´s first observatory and, since it was built, it is one of the premier ground-based observatories in the world.
