The E-ELT
A three-dimensional model of the European Extremely Large Telescope in its enormous enclosure.
The main mirror will have a diameter of 39 metres, and the height of the whole building will be 100 metres. A comparison with the car in the lower part of the image conveys a feeling of the observatory's impressive size.
The design for the E-ELT shown here was published in 2009 and is preliminary.
