That flag went to space
On Wednesday, 16 February 1994, the STS-61 crew that successfully repaired the Hubble Space Telescope during a Space Shuttle mission in December 1993 paid a visit to ESO headquarters. Among the crew members was the Swiss scientist Claude Nicollier, who had previously carried out observations at La Silla. Seen here are Nicollier and Harry van der Laan. The ESO flag was flown on the Shuttle mission and is now on display at the ESO Headquarters.
