NTT at La Silla
The sun sets behind the New Technology Telescope (NTT) at ESO's La Silla observation site. La Silla, in the southern part of the Atacama desert of Chile, was ESO's first observation site. Home to ESO's 3.6-m telescope, the 2.2-m Max-Planck-ESO telescope as well as the NTT, the site sits 2400 metres above sea level, creating excellent viewing conditions for astronomers. La Silla also hosts national telescopes such as the 1.2-m Swiss Telescope and the 1.5-m Danish Telescope.
