X-shooter
One of the VLT’s observatories gets outfitted with X-shooter. This instrument collects up to half of all the light from an astronomical object across the ultraviolet (300 nm) to the near-infrared (2400 nm) regime all at once, rather than piecemeal among various observing facilities.
