top Introduction

This tutorial provides information for the the Science Health Check trending. Please, be advised that processing of the science frames of HAWK-I stopped on October 1st, 2011. For earlier dates refer to HISTORY plots.
The Science trending is based on the measurement of QC1 parameters of scientific data obtained with OBs executed in the normal course of operations.
The image quality and the background count levels in each detector are monitored in J, H, Ks & Y filters.

QC1 parameters

  • image quality (QC1 database table hawki_sience, column qc_iq, product keyword QC.IQ)
    Description: The sample of source FWHM is filtered by a circularity threshold and the median is taken.
  • background (QC1 database table hawki_sience, column qc_backgd_mean, product keyword QC.BACKGD.MEAN)
    Description: The mean of all raw frame background levels is taken. The value is not divided by the exposure time. As the master dark is currently not subtracted, The value measures the detector dark current and the telluric sky emission.
