Image flats (also called check flats) are measured as technical calibrations daily as part of the ISAAC calibration plan in three different setups:

  • ARM=SW/Hawaii, FILTER=NB_1.06, camera=S2, DIT/NDIT=4.0/4, READ=DoubleCorr. The setup SW S2 is used in imaging mode.
  • ARM=LW/Aladdin, FILTER=NB=1.64, camera=L2, DIT/NDIT=4.0/4, READ=DoubleCorrLowBias. The setup LW L2 is used for imaging science OBs in jitter mode. The pixel scale is 0.148
  • ARM=LW/Aladdin, FILTER=NB=1.64, camera=L3, DIT/NDIT=4.0/4, READ=DoubleCorrLowBias. The setup LW L3 is used for imaging science OBs in chopping mode. The pixel scale is 0.017.

The check flats provide a quick health check of the instrument, in particular for the imaging mode. Furthermore detector features like debris are easily detected on the raw frames.

2008-01-01: There is no pipeline support for the single checkflat raw frames. The following preliminary service is provided by QC Garching:

  • The first checkflat of a year is used a reference checkflat with assigned PRO.CATG=REF_CHECKFLAT.
  • We divide the current checkflat by the reference checkflat and assign the PRO.CATG=RATiO_CHECK_FLAT to the product of the QC script. We subtract the reference checkflat from the current checkflat and assign the PRO.CATG=DIFF_CHECKFLAT to the product of the QC script.
  • several QC parameters are defined and measured on the raw frame and on both products.
  • All checkflats from 2006-01-01 have been processed backwards, and the QC1 parameters have been ingested into the QC1 DB.
  • The products will not be ingested into the master calibration archive.

Find here an example DIFF_CHECKFLAT product in early 2007 with a short time difference to the reference checkflat and one of late 2007 with a long time difference to the checkflat.

  • SW-arm, Hawaii detector, S2 camera : Jan 2007: Dec 2007:
  • LW-arm, Aladdin detector, L2 camera: Jan 2007 Dec 2007:
  • LW-arm, Aladdin detector, L3 camera: Feb 2007 Dec 2007:

The service is preliminary and subject of review.

top raw frame parameters

Only simple statistical parameters are extracted from checkflat raw frames. Five 100x100 pixel size windows are defined. The location is outlined in the following image:

Only simple statistical parameters are extracted from frame : checkflat minus the reference checkflat. . Five 100x100 pixel size windows are defined. The windows have the same size as used for the checkflat raw frames, but the locals are in the center of the detector quadrants instead of being pushed closer to the detector edge as used for the raw frame checkflats.
