Twee teams van astronomen die met ALMA werken, hebben onafhankelijk van elkaar, overtuigend bewijs gevonden dat er om de jonge ster HD 163296 drie planeten-in-wording cirkelen. Met behulp van een nieuwe planeetopsporingstechniek hebben de astronomen drie verstoringen in de gasrijke schijf rond de ster opgespoord: het sterkste bewijs tot nu toe dat zich daar planeten bevinden. Ze worden beschouwd als de eerste planeten die met ALMA zijn ontdekt.
