Slabá záře planetární mlhoviny ESO 577-24 je pozorovatelná pouze asi 10 tisíc let, což je z kosmického hlediska okamžik. Svítící obálku ionizovaného plynu, která představuje doslova poslední výdech umírající hvězdy, jejíž pozůstatky jsou patrné uprostřed snímku, zachytil dalekohled ESO/VLT. Planetární mlhovina při své expanzi dále slábne a postupně zcela zanikne.
