Data Direct Retrieval (by File)
Do you want to retrieve a list of files by their identifiers?
This form is intended for users who know the file names or identifiers of the individual data files they want to retrieve from the ESO Science Archive Facility.
- Functionality:
- Retrieve directly a list of ESO archive files.
- Input:
- A list of ESO archive files: both file names and identifiers are accepted (case-sensitive).
Note: ORIGFILE names are not supported.
- on the left, you upload a file containing the list of files you want to retrieve: as soon as uploaded, the list will be submitted to the Download Portal;
- on the right, typically used for a handfull number of files, you can paste a list of identifiers in the text area, and then click the "Download Portal" button.

Since 2026, this service supports all retrievable file types (as an example, phase 3 ancillary files were previously not supported).
File names and identifiers are case-sensitive. The file extension of FITS files (e.g., .fits, .fits.fz, .fits.Z, .tfits, etc.) if provided is discarded. The file extension of any other file is mandatorily required (e.g., .TAR).
You would normally provide one file name/id per input line.
On each line, any text after a # is discarded (as a comment)
It is also possible to copy paste the content of a FITS header containing the desired files, as in this example:
PROV1 = 'OMEGA.2015-05-20T01:11:44.489.fits' / Originating science file PROV2 = 'OMEGA.2015-05-20T01:15:28.750.fits' / Originating science file PROV3 = 'OMEGA.2015-05-20T01:19:13.140.fits' / Originating science file PROV4 = 'OMEGA.2015-05-20T01:22:57.512.fits' / Originating science file PROV5 = 'OMEGA.2015-05-20T01:26:41.762.fits' / Originating science file |
